The
Westin Resort |
|
Set on St. John's great Cruz Bay with a private
1,200-foot-long white sand beach and surrounded by the lush
green hills of the emerald isle, lies The Westin Resort, St.
John. Just minutes from the pristine Virgin Islands National
Park which encompasses over two-thirds of the island, the
resort is grand in terms of seclusion and abundant activity.
The resort’s 282 guest rooms and suites, and the 67 villas
feature a host of convenient amenities such as: The Heavenly
Bed, individual climate control, color cable televisions,
spacious marble bathrooms, in-room refreshment centers,
in-room safes, iron and ironing boards, direct dial
telephones with voice mail and data ports and most offer
patios or balconies. A .25 mile beach
of light colored sand borders Great Cruz Bay. Lounge chairs
and umbrellas provide sunbathing comfort and shade. Offshore
lie reefs for snorkeling and a pyramid-shape "iceberg" slide
(climb up one side, slide down the other), a trampoline
raft, and a swimming raft. A pool complex adjacent to the
beach includes a freeform pool with toddlers' section,
volleyball net, waterfall, and little garden islands
containing palm trees. Two secluded spas each provide
soaking space for 16. Cushioned teak lounge chairs and
umbrellas surround the pool. A live reggae band performs
every afternoon. Poolside hair braiders work feverishly to
keep up with demand. Our experienced culinary staff
brings the color and robust flavors of Caribbean cuisine
alive. Combine that with opulent settings and the quality
service synonymous with the Westin name, it becomes clear
that The Westin Resort, St. John is the natural choice in
the Caribbean for all of your dining options from a quick
sandwich and espresso in Mango Deli to the Islands finest
cuisine at Chloe Bernard’s. |

Set on its own
peninsula and bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, this
hotel is part of
the Virgin Islands
National Park, thanks to hotel founder Laurance
Rockefeller (grandson of John D.), who donated 5,000 acres
to establish the park. Although Rockefeller sold the
resort in 1986,
this hotel stays
true to his vision of providing rest and rejuvenation in
harmony with nature and remains the
Virgin Islands'
signature resort
long after it first brought attention to
St. John's
potential as a Set on its own peninsula and bordered by
the Atlantic Ocean. This
hotel offers 166 air conditioned guestrooms
without television, telephone, radio, or clock in one- and
two-story widely scattered buildings. (Telephones are
available in the main building and sprinkled around the
property, and guests can borrow cellular telephones.) Made
of concrete or stone and wood, lodging buildings are
designed to blend into the landscape. Colored in soft
earth tones, they have flat roofs for a low profile, and
are flanked by dense gardens. All guests have the option
of a complimentary Continental breakfast served every
morning in the main building's Breezeway. Complimentary
afternoon tea is served in the open-air Reading Room at
Turtle Bay Estate House. Seven
beaches fringe
the resort's peninsula. All provide snorkeling
opportunities in the turquoise Atlantic Ocean. At least
five supply calm water on any given day. This
hotel lies in
front of the main building and includes water sports.
Hawksnest Beach
catches easterly trade winds and provides afternoon shade.
Honeymoon is the
most isolated and features a
snorkeling reef
at each end. Little Caneel supplies peace and quiet near
the resort's pier. Turtle
Bay offers views of marine traffic between
islands. Paradise is tiny and tranquil. Scott features sea
turtles. (Paradise and Scott are adults-only.) For
freshwater swimming, the resort provides a good-size pool
surrounded by lawns.
